Worship of Holy Anointing at St. Panteleimon Parish Church in Cairo (VIDEO)

The service of Holy Unction was celebrated on Maundy Wednesday morning in the Chapel of St. Panteleimon at the Greek Hospital in Cairo.

The Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo, Metropolitan Nikodimos of Memphis, presided over the Holy Sacrament together with Archimandrite Joachim, while the hymns were sung by the Chief Cantor of the Greek Community of Cairo, Yannis Kountrias, and Archimandrite Paisios.

In his address, the Metropolitan reminded the faithful present of the importance and meaningful depth of the Holy Sacrament of Holy Anointing, which he said is conferred so that we may be in view of the Passion of the Lord that we are about to experience physically but above all spiritually and spiritually cleansed to attract the grace and mercy of God.

The service was attended by, among others, Angela Charalampopoulou, Director of the Hellenic Hospital Nursing Home, and Evangelia Thiraiou, President of the Greek Ladies’ Charity of Ilioupolis “Mary of Egypt”.

Charalampopoulou warmly thanked Antinitsa Kazamia, member of the Council of “Mary of Egypt”, for her kind gesture, who presented blankets and underwear to the residents of the nursing home on behalf of her brother Antonis Kazamias.

Afterwards there was a rich treat for all those present, offered by the charity “Mary of Egypt”.
