Shirley Barrick’s Obituary (1935-2022) – Summerfield, NC

November 19, 1935 – January 1, 2022

Shirley Ophelia Hinson Barricks, 86, died at Wesley Long Hospital on Saturday, January 1, 2022.

A funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Summerfield on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 12 noon under the direction of Pastor Kelly Bullard. The burial takes place in the church cemetery. The family will meet friends at church an hour before the service, starting at 11 a.m.

Shirley was born and raised in Albemarle, NC; She later moved to Greensboro and attended Greensboro High School, where she met the love of her life, Roger. They were married for 65½ years. She was a selfless woman who was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family and friends unconditionally. She was a member of the First Baptist Church Summerfield, where she worked alongside Roger with the Senior Adults for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Ladies Red Hat Society and sold real estate for various companies over a period of 25 years before retiring in 2006. One of her favorite pastimes was shopping at Belk on senior discount day. She always looked forward to vacationing with her family at every opportunity.

Shirley preceded her parents Grover and Pearl Morton Hinson in death; her husband Roger Cary Barricks; and her brother Thurman Hinson.

She leaves behind her children Amy Barricks McGee from Greensboro and Chris Barricks and wife Denise from Summerfield; two grandchildren, Taylor and Makayla Barricks; and three great-grandchildren, Braelyn, Bristyl and Tatum.

In place of flowers, memorials can be placed at the First Baptist Church of Summerfield, 2300 Scalesville Road, Summerfield, NC 27358.
