Donna Forsberg Hanson Obituary (1934-2021) – Reno, NV

Donna Forsberg Hanson
December 2, 1934 – December 24, 2021
Reno, Nevada – Donna Forsberg Hanson passed away peacefully at home on December 24, 2021, surrounded by loving husband Lloyd and her family. Donna was born on December 2, 1934 in McPherson, Kansas, to Eugene Forsberg and Bertha Anderson Forsberg. She grew up attending schools in Roxbury and Colony, Kansas.
Donna’s successful career began in high school while working in a small-town Kansas grocery store. After graduating in 1952, Donna became a secretary at Morrison Enterprises and then fulfilled her dream of moving to California where she began working for Morrison’s Government Surplus Housing Branch. In 1964, after nearly a dozen coast-to-coast moves, Donna and her young family settled in Reno, Nevada.
Donna was a remarkable businesswoman, having held numerous leadership roles in construction, real estate, and real estate development. In 1983 she moved to Elko County and literally helped build the town of West Wendover, NV. She was actively involved in local government and in the city’s founding process. In 1990, Donna made history as the first mayor of West Wendover, Nevada!
Never forgetting her roots, Donna moved back to Roxbury, Kansas in 1991 to be closer to the family. During this time she continued her illustrious career in Lindsborg, Kansas, as a real estate agent with Lindsborg Realty and as manager of Forsberg Gallery and Courtyard Shops. Donna was also an active member of the Lindsborg Rotary Club.
The best chapter in Donna’s life began when she married Pastor Lloyd Hanson in 1995 and moved into his Sacramento home. She was an exceptional decorator / organizer and took great pride in making her lovely home a warm, comfortable place. Lloyd and Donna have held many family and church gatherings in their 25 years there.
Donna had been a member of the Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority since 1954 and remained active in the Laureate Beta Omega Chapter in Sacramento. Donna also volunteered for various church organizations.
In July 2021, Lloyd and Donna moved to an assisted living facility in Reno, Nevada, where their son Craig and his family live.
Donna’s greatest treasure was her family, including all “mixed members”. She loved gardening, listened to old hymns and piano music, watched sports, and played card games.
Donna was pre-deceased from her parents, four siblings, the father of her sons Olin Crick and their son Steven Crick.
Donna leaves behind her 26-year-old loving husband, Lloyd Hanson, and his four children, Jeff Hanson (Sheryl), Kristen Foote (Rick), Doug Hanson (Debbie), Kara Pryor (Pete), their son Craig Crick (Laura) and grandson Kyle, Jaime , Jake (Maddie), Jonathan, Annie, Luke and Hazel. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Maleta Forsberg, several nieces and nephews, and stepdaughters Helen White, Laura Tuttle, Kay Stump, Fay Gabbart and their families.
Donna had a positive outlook on life even in the most difficult times. She had a special way of comforting others, especially her children and grandchildren, which she so adored. Donna has been a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. We will miss her beautiful smile, happy laugh and thoughtful manner.
We would like to thank the staff at Five Star Premier Residences and Compassion Care Hospice for caring for Donna before her death. Memorial services will be held in Sacramento, CA and Roxbury, KS at a later date. Instead of flowers, please donate to your preferred charity.
