Faith International Ministries gave away free gas at Dodge’s, 1414 E. Broadway Ave.

Free fuel went to the first 100 cars, with a limit of $20 per car, according to event organizers.

The raffle lasted from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Customer Johnny Cross said the event was a blessing due to record high gas prices.

He said $20 seems like a lot when you don’t have it.

There was a line of cars around the block long before the start time.

The event was in direct response to news of the closure of a Family Dollar community warehouse and recent layoffs in nearby Carvana.

Family Dollar’s distribution center was home to hundreds of local employees.

Anthony King, pastor of Faith International Ministries, said more than a dozen people in the community around the church have been put out of work.

“When we got word from some families in our community, we knew we wanted to do something,” he said.

King said families are suffering due to high gas and food prices.

“Right now the economy is challenging,” he said.

Regina Bindon, who had petrol in her tank, said the giveaway was “better than nothing”.

She said the $20 was a little less than half a tank of gas for her car.
