Church leaders say part of Davidson’s Church has been destroyed and suspects have been videotaped

DAVIDSON, NC (WBTV) – Police are investigating after church leaders say their church has been broken into and destroyed.

Officials told WBTV that Reeves Temple AME Zion Church on Watson Street in Davidson had been broken into three times – September 5th, September 9th and September 10th.

Church leaders that day provided WBTV with photos of the damage and surveillance videos of possible suspects outside the church.

“We have several people who have been seen on films walking in and out of the buildings multiple times,” said Rev. Anthony Davis. “We have cameras in front and behind and there we see them going in and out of the building.”

Rev. Davis says some of the damage includes spraying the entire fire extinguisher and some wood damage.

Church leaders say the historic social hall that is being renovated has been damaged.

The video shows young people going in and out of church.

“We are in the process of revitalizing our cabin,” said Rev. Davis. “Unfortunately, in the last few days, maybe a week or so, some vandals have come in and caused even more damage and destruction inside our hut, so we fear that the damage might spread to the inside of our church.”

According to the police report available to the WBTV, suspects are being sought for burglary and break-in.

Rev. Davis says he hopes parishioners will help church leaders identify those who have broken into the Church.

“We just hope the community and all the neighbors in the area keep an eye out because we know children can continue to do things in the neighborhood,” said Rev. Davis.
