ANNA BEHM | News, Sports, Jobs

Anna Catherine “Kitty” Behm, 94 of Wind Ridge, died on Wednesday March 9, 2022.

She was born on September 3, 1927 in Cambridge, OH to the late Dwight and Isabella Robinson Frye.

Kitty attended Pleasant Valley School and then Muskingum College. She later attended the Nursing Academy at Ohio Valley Nurse’s Hospital in Wheeling, WV. There she was selected to enroll in US Army Nurse Training for participation in World War II, but was unable to actively enroll due to the end of the war.

She worked in the surgical and pediatric departments of the former Ohio Valley Medical Center. This is where she would come to be introduced to Charles “Bud” Behm.

They married on May 12, 1950 in Wheeling, WV. She traveled the region and worked at various hospitals in New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Kentucky wherever her husband was employed in the pipeline industry.

Eventually, Bud and Kitty moved back to Wind Ridge and began farming on the original homestead established by Bud’s great-great-grandfather. Kitty still participated in private nursing while helping out on the farm and worked with Bud in the auction business for several years.

After the death of Bud’s father, Kitty stopped breastfeeding and co-founded the Charles J. Behm Auction Company with Bud. For untold years they worked side by side, traveling thousands of miles together conducting auctions in WV, PA and Ohm until Bud retired and passed the business on to her sons Joe and Jim.

Kitty enjoyed her retirement with Bud, travelling, farming and supporting various charities and organizations in Greene and Washington counties in PA and Marshall County, WV.

She was a Sunday school teacher at Bristoria Church and also attended the Harmony Presbyterian Church in Jacktown. She helped launch the Head Start program for the Aleppo, New Freeport and Jacktown areas.

She was a member of Cambridge, OH OES #211, a two-time cancer survivor, and an avid supporter of Greene County 4-H ranching programs.

Kitty helped in the auction business for many years, even after it was passed on and the name changed to Behm’s Auction and Real Estate Services. Her memory and knowledge of antiques and collectibles was well known throughout the auction industry and she will forever be remembered instantly for her wit and strong work ethic.

Kitty is deceased by one son, Charles J. “Joe” Behm III.

Surviving is her husband Charles J. “Bud” Behm Jr.; son Jim (Shelly) Behm of Glen Dale, WV; a brother, William Frye of Niles, OH; a daughter-in-law, Karen Behm of Waynesburg; Grandsons Charles “Justin” (Amanda) Behm, Andrew (Haddie) Behm, Alexandria Behm, Madeline Behm and Charles Behm, and great-grandchildren Katie and Charlie Behm and Graham and Tucker Behm.

Friends will be welcomed Sunday, March 13, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Behm Funeral Home, 182 W. High Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370 for services on Monday, March 14, 2022 at 11:00 am led by Pastor Linda Shaw. Burial will be at Wind Ridge Cemetery in Wind Ridge. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making donations to the American Cancer Society. Condolences can be expressed online at www.behmfh.com.
